Bucks beat the Paignton side 4-1 to make it through to the Devon Intermediate Cup area final. Nigel Fordham forced over a second-minute opener, and 17-year-old full-back Max Leaman nodded home a second before Ross Bradley pulled one back for Hookhills from the penalty spot. Malcolm Douglas restored the Bucks' two-goal cushion with a solo effort shortly after the restart, and Fordham, with his second, made sure of victory with 15 minutes remaining.

Saturday 31st October 2009 Friendly

Buckland Athletic 3-3 Stoke Fleming

Saturday 24th October 2009 South Devon League Division Four

Buckland Athletic 12-0 Ashburton 2nd's

Buckland 2rd's made it eight wins from eight league gameswhen they breat a spirited Ashburton side 12-0 at Decoy.

Pre-match pep talk involved getting the players to take a couple of early chances, in an attempt to put the game out of touch as early as possible, however  the 3rds took this to the extreme by scoring 3 goals in the 1st 14 mins. Cowling (4mins), (og,6mins), cowling (14 mins). This having appeared to boost our confidence and enhance our ground play, led to bucks having turned out one of their most satisfying displays in a long time. Sharples added a fourth after 20 mins, having been in terrific form, since the start. Bowen added a 5th , on 25 mins, with a deft turn and flick, which reflected our confidence and ability on the day. Bowen , then added another to his tally, quickly followed by Fordham adding his own double, and to cap of a quality 1st half feasby added a captains goal, putting his broken nose in where it hurts, to finish the half 9-0 up.

The second half began in equally impressive form, with cowling bagging his hat-trick on 46 mins. Man of the match paul sharples completed his day by grabbing another 2 goals, and gaining his own hat-trick so as not to be outdone by his fellow striker. Making it 12-0, on the day. Both side missed penaltys, with keepers at both ends saving, at the feet of strikers, Big lee making a terrific save in particular, to ensure we kept a clean sheet. Leaman made way for Sweeney, at right back.holmes made way for Stacey in right mid, and barrett made way for the irrepressible billy (buckland) holmes, to finally put his injury hell behind him.

All in all a very satisfying day for all connected with the third team, and once again another satisfying day for the club. Many thanks to our continued support. Up the bucks.

Saturday 17th October 2009 South Devon league Division Four

Loddiswell Athletic 2nd's 1-4 Buckland Athletic

The thirds travelled yet again for this fixture at Loddiswell.  Out of seven games played this season they have played away six times up to now.  This would be the highest placed opposition they would of faced to date.

We open the game very strongly and put Loddiswell on the back foot from the off, Ben Cowling is causing mayhem on the right flank.  It’s from one of Bens crosses the goal comes, he shows great pace and whips a ball across the six yard box, Geordie Douglas sends a powerful header goalwards for the keeper to make a good save, but Paul Sharples is on hand to poach the ball home from six yards 0-1.  Loddiswell are hanging in there but it’s no surprise when number two comes,  Influential midfielder Paul Bowan spotted Bens run on the right , he played an inch perfect pass for Ben to cross into the box, Nigel Fordam had burst into the box from mid field to fire past the keeper 0-2.  Lee Davis is bossing the back four with his vocals, Mark Feasby , Ross Beer , Max Leaman and Joe Selway are responding to his encouragement and keeping things nice and tight.  The score stays the same until half time , we stress the need to concentrate from the start of the second half.

Loddiswell come out all guns blazing , but we stand firm and in Paul Bowan we have the best player on show today, he is at the heart of everything we do.  It’s obvious that the next goal would crucial and when the ball starts to bounce around their six yard box Paul Sharples latches onto the ball to fire home his second and our third 0-3.  We now have a laps of concentration and allow Loddiswell to get the score back to 1-3.  We don’t panic and still cause problems , Paul Bowan now goes on a mazy dribble in the last third and ghost past the defence , he lets fly with a fierce shot the keeper cant hold ,he follows up and fires home with the keeper stranded on the floor to make the score 1-4.  This is the final score , on reflection we have done all that was asked , we have competed in all areas of the pitch and made things very difficult for Loddiswell.  Man Of The Match Paul Bowen.

Saturday 10th October 2009 Devon Intermediate Cup 2nd Round

Dittisham 1-12 Buckland Athletic

This was a trip back in time having played at Dittisham many years ago they still change in the village hall. But now they the luxury of showers, we use to wash in a tin bath in the middle of the hall. The pitch now looks out over Galmpton Creek and if there is a better view from a football pitch let me know. For the first 30 minutes we huff and puff and get very frustrated with each other, but once Geordie bags the first goal we start to relax and pass the ball with more purpose. When half time comes we have gone 3-0 up and scot sends out the message to relax and smile the rest will come.

The second half is totally different , we mount wave after wave of attack on the Dittisham goal.
We play some very good football on a very nice surface, fullbacks Max Leaman and Joe Selway are getting forward at every chance. The strings are being pulled in midfield by Paul Bowen who keeps a constant flow of through balls for the forwards. Gary Sweeney is patrolling the left flank ( yes that’s right the left flank) always willing to chase and hustle which forces errors in Ditts defence. When referee blows for full time Dittisham let out a huge sigh of releaf as they have been battered , the final tally being 12-1 . To there credit Dittisham never gave up kicked out or moaned at the ref so well done to them.
The goals were shared between Malcom (Geordie ) Douglas 3, Paul Sharples 2,
John ( the belly ) Stacey 2, Josh Chisholm , Gary Sweeney, Max Leaman,
Joe Selway, Mark Feasby. Man Of The Match. Max Leaman. Well Done Boys .

Saturday 3rd October 2009 South Devon League Division Four

Buckland Athletic 9-0 Newton United 2nd's

Hacksaws And Swimming.

The first home game for the thirds was against cross-town rivals Newton Utd reserves.  As normal the local pitch provider doesn’t let the team down, on lifting the roller shutter to the dressing rooms only to find a combination lock. Frantic phone calls to Dyrons result in no one knowing the combination for said lock.  Plan B is adopted, a hacksaw is thrust forward so said lock can be cut off.  Not the best start to a game but hey ho, kitted and ready to go its very evident Newton Utd have a very young side.  We open the game at a good pace, but Newton Utd match us and make us work very hard. The whole game changes once we score; as Newton think here we go again after being on the end of some heavy defeats already this season.  We play some good football and at half time we are 4-0 up, Scot encourages the players to keep playing football and keep the ball on the ground.  We score another 5 goals to make the final score 9-0,during the second half we play some very good football with the younger element of the team having boundless energy they show what they can do.  The goals were shared between Ben Cowling 2, Glenn Holmes 2, Paul Sharples 2, Malcom Douglas, Tom Barrett and Paul Bowen.

During the warm up Mark Feasby announced that if Glenn Holmes scored he would jump in Decoy Lake after Glenn had missed from six yards the week before.  When Glenn lobbed the keeper the shout went up for Mark to start blowing up the arm bands, true to his word after the game Mark jumped in the lake swam 20 yards and headed back to shore,( Mark keep 2012 clear have heard a rumour the doggy paddle is going to become an Olympic event).  On reflecting on the game you can only beat who is put in front of you and that’s what the thirds did, they played some good football on what can only be called a very poor pitch.

 Well Done All.  Nigel.

Man Of The Match.  Mark Feasby for 20 yards Doggy Paddle.

Friday 11th September 2009 Devon Intermediate Cup

Buckland Athletic 3-1 Buckland & Milber

In this eagerly awaited local derby it was Buckland Athletic that came out on top with a 3-1 win at Coach Road on Friday evening, in this Devon Intermediate Cup 1st Round tie. Buckland Athletic were on top for the majority of the first half but spurned numerous chances in that half that could have made the game very comfortable. They however, take a 2-0 first half lead with Paul Sharples netting both of those goals. To be fair to Buckland & Milber they came more into teh game in the second half but failed to create any clear cut chances, and it was The Buck's that went 3-0 up when Ben Cowling netted. Buckland & Milber did pull a goal back, but it is Buckland Athletic that go through to the second round, in whcih, they will be away to Division Six side Dittisham United on the 10th October.

Friday 11th September 2009 Devon Intermediate Cup preview

Buckland Athletic vs Buckland & Milber at Coach Road, kick off 7pm.

Buckland Athletic 3rd team will take on Buckland & Milber in the 1st Round of this season's Devon Intermediate Cup. This is Buckland & Milber's first season in adult football, and they play tehir iootball in the Devon and Exeter League Division 8. There is added spice in this game as Buckland & Milber had their application to join the South Devon league was turned down. Buckland & Milber have played just one league game so far this season, and they won thatt game 7-2 against Langdon. Buckland & Milber FC was formed in 2003 by Ross and Julieanne Fewings.  Originally the idea was for youth football only. The youth section has had a very good 6 years with trophies won in the Pioneer youth league and R & T Tournaments.  We run different age groups through mini soccer. This year they have established the first mens team at the club. The team is managed by Ross Fewings who also manages the under 9’s at the club. Buck's 3rd Team ahve already played three league games in South Devon league Division Four and have won all four including last saturday's incredable fight back from being 4-2 down at Babbacombe Corries with 15 minutes to play before winning that game 6-4. Manager Scott Chisholm – who had made a couple of inspired tactical changes with his side 3-2 down at half-time, switching Sharples, who started the match up front, to centre-back and bringing Pike on to take his position at centre-forward – was full of praise for stand-in captain Nigel Fordham after the final whistle. "Nigel led from the front – the only thing he didn't do was score," praised Chisholm, whose regular skipper, and assistant, Mark Feasby was ruled out of the game. “He pretty much grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and said 'we are not going to lose this game' – he was inspirational."

These mean that Watcombe head the league table on goal difference from our 3rd's with babbacombe in 3rd place.
